winner got to do a couple of videos for Vista Video, a solo video company. I did a couple of those - they were a real quality company and made everybody look good. After that, the Muscle Hunks guy contacted me and told me he owned two companies. He told me I'd be doing two different types of videos; one where I'd do the same stuff that I did for Vista, which was, no erections, real soft, sensual videos. The other company would pay more, but he said I'd have to do a JO scene.
M: And that was OK with you?
MD: Naw, I said, I'd just do the video that paid less. I told him I wasn't going to do that on video, was he crazy?
M: Not a nice Texas boy like you.
MD: Right. I was 19 at the time, and I went out there. We had dinner and started talking and I finally said, Yeah, I'd try it, but I don't know if I'm going to be able to... what's the word...."perform" in front of a camera. But I said I'd try. So I got there, and we started shooting, and it got to the point where I needed to....you know. I tried and I tried. Finally I just said, you're going to have to leave the room, it's just not working. So he leaves the room and then it happened, so I screamed out at him, OK, I'm ready. Then he comes back in and shoots like crazy. It didn't take very long. After that, I didn't do anything for about two years.
M: What did you do?
MD: Well, I just lived at Mom and Dad's, eating and working out all day, and that was it. My mother was yelling at me that I needed to get a job. I didn't know what I wanted to do, but I knew that, whatever it was, I was going to have to do it with my body. I didn't want a 9-5 job. I figured a football player, professional wrestler, a model...I didn't know what. I had run into a friend of mine who was doing really well working at a club in Dallas, dancing for guys. So I went up there, worked a couple of nights. The second night I was there, a guy came up to me and said, Are you Mark Dalton? I was trying to figure out how this guy knew "Mark Dalton," cause the only time I used that name was in the Muscle Hunk videos a couple of years previous, and I didn't even know anyone had even watched those videos. He was telling me about a forum where they were talking about me. I had no idea what he was talking about. So I went there and found there thousands of posts from people talking about me. So I posted with name, email address and phone number. After that, it snowballed I wound up in LA doing photo shoots and everything started to happen.
M: Came as a surprise, then.
MD: Yes, it wasn't a planned thing, it just sort of happened.
M: Let's talk about Mark Dalton's sexual orientation, if that's OK with you.
MD: Well, in this business, it's all about fantasy. Some people want to think I'm straight, some people want me to be gay. Then there some who don't care either way. But by me answering that question, that's ruining somebody's fantasy.
M: Well, either way, it doesn't seem to bother you.
MD: Doesn't bother me at all. I like a little bit of intrigue, having people wonder. No one knows what goes on behind closed doors.
M: You've become really popular considering you haven't really been around that long, and haven't made that many movies. Plus, the movies that you have made have all been solo performances, and you have yet to be paired with another guy.
MD: Yeah, and I don't even think they've been that great quality. I'll let you in on a little fact here that we really haven't told many people yet. Myself and a couple of other guys, really, really big-name gay porn stars, are going to be creating our own company. We're going to hire the best directors, models, and create a top-notch company. Doing it for yourself, you know you're only going to be doing your best work. It's going to be something pretty exciting.
M: Does this mean that, now that you're making your own movies, that you're actually going to be doing scenes interacting with other guys?
MD: Let me just say that any time I do that, it will be under my own terms. The way I feel is, once you've done it, you've done it. I'm raising the bar, no doubt about it. I'm not stopping where I am right now. But I want to raise it slightly. A little bit here, a little bit there. Then, you get to the point where you raise it all the way. It's going to be a slow process. It's going to be like a novel. You're not going to finish that novel in two pages. It's going to be on-going.
M: Are you saying that you have a fear that, once you do it, you feel that's all there is?
MD: It's like a football season. If you start out with the Super Bowl, what fun is it to watch the rest of the season? It's the season up to that Super Bowl that keeps everyone interested, and makes the Super Bowl that more exciting.
M: So you're really going to pace yourself.
MD: Yeah, I like being different. My approach is definitely a business point of view.
M: So basically, you just don't want anyone to know just when you're going to do it.
MD: That's it exactly. I'm a man with a plan.
M: Any guys you'd really like to work with?
MD: Matthew Rush is a really cool and sweet guy, and I like him, but he's all tied up with Falcon. Caesar and Tom Katt are other good guys.
M: So if someone out there is wondering what kind of guy you're going to make it with for the first time, you can probably be safe to say it's going to be one of the muscle guys.
MD: More than likely.
M: You're doing this Dancing Across America thing - do you enjoy doing that as much as the movies?
MD: I love doing that. Going to different places where I get to interact with the fans. I get to meet a lot really cool people. It's really fun. It's all about the fans. Without them, I'm just another little muscle kid.
M: So it appears from what you say, that you intend to be around for while.
MD: I'm in it for the long haul.
